5 Tips for Looking Younger in your 50’s

I guess I’ve done my share of reading over the years on how to combat aging. Now, I don’t have to read because I’m living it! I feel qualified to tell you how you can keep aging at bay and work to remain fit well into your later years. I must tell you it won’t be easy. I guess that’s why so many people dread aging because of not making a commitment to do the work. However, you don’t have to give into the years. Simply face them as if you’re an expert surfer riding a big wave.

Tip #1: Keep moving

I’ll be 55 this year, and it’s hard for me to believe. I’m not afraid, and I’ll tell you why. I’ve taken the best possible care of my body that I know how, and it has aged well.

What have I done that’s so amazing? I’ve exercised for decades. I started in high school and never stopped. I make an effort because I want to walk two miles when I’m in my 70’s.

I went to the gym this morning and worked out for an hour. I do cardio, strength training and a variety of flexibility exercises and my body has never let me down.

Plan your week and stick to it. I have to make a living but keeping my body moving is the most IMPORTANT thing to me. Why? Because I’ve seen what years of hard work have done.

Tip #2: Drink water

Yeah, yeah, yeah this isn’t anything new, is it? YET, I’m telling you my experience, and there’s nothing going to keep your body and your skin looking younger other than drinking water.

I’m not a believer that diet soda is gonna kill ya. In fact, I LOVE them, but I limit my intake of diet sodas.

I get up and drink water and a cup of coffee. I have water beside me all day, and I’m not as hungry, and my skin looks better so YES it works.

Tip #3: Practice gratitude

We live in a fast-paced world where people are busy, busy, busy and have little time for others or themselves. Don’t do this. Take care of your mental and physical well-being.

One of the top ways I do this is by being grateful. What if I never started exercising? Could I still walk two miles in 34 minutes? No, I don’t think so.

What if I didn’t have a job or a home or so many things? There is NO guarantee of anything in this world. I’m here to tell you. I’ve been left in relationships, lost both parents and even faced a lawsuit that ripped me apart.

Yet, I faced each day with gratitude for what I still had and NOT what I lost. This thinking will change your life.

Tip #4: Eat less

You know I had a strong urge for something high in sugar and fat, and I thought do I need this? No. Did the craving pass? Yes

There is so much we consume daily that we just don’t need. My metabolism has stopped so I’m mindful of my daily caloric intake more than I used to be.

I think before I eat and this will allow you to maintain your weight and stay active. It’s not about how I look any longer it’s how I feel. I want to beat aging, and so far I am.

You are what you eat! If I consume too much-processed food or sugar the next day, it shows on my skin. I’ve never had bags under my eyes and still don’t if I eat right.

Age is just a number, and it’s my number. Do I want to be younger? Not really. Do I want to stay active and in good health? Every day I take a breath.
